Kaixin is pleased to announce the winner of the Dec 08 Competition. It is Pip Griffin from Australia for an extract from her Verse Novel, Ani Lin: the journey of a Chinese Buddhist nun.
The standard of entries was very high, and we thank all those who participated. It helps to broaden the experience of China which is what Kaixin is all about.
The next competition closes 31st March 09.
Don't forget the annual Zhou Yi Jian competition which closes on the 30th June 09 with a first prize of $250.
The following is a small extract from Ani Lin: the journey of a Chinese Buddhist nun:
24. Crossing Do-kar-la
The town of Deqen
sprawls in clouds
in a valley
of the Langcang Jiang* *Mekong River
some houses have grass roofs
white or red brick walls
others are of wood
their beams carved Tibetan style
in colours bright
as Pure Land rainbows
yaks wander free
bells sound as
children herd their
sheep and long-haired goats
they smile at me
